CHRISTMAS SINGLE ALERT: Ghost Station / Christmas Telly

Christmas songs are a dying novelty, and that’s a crying shame – once a staple of British culture, success of festive tunes has been overtaken by the efforts of fifteen minutes of fame reality star wannabes. Believe it or not, Christmas songs routinely pitted against one another in the charts a few years back, but now only the classics dent the charts. Fortunately, a bunch of artists carry on the tradition, and this year Ghost Station have released their delightfully Christmasey ‘Christmas Telly’. Ghost Station describe themselves as the “world’s smallest band” – the band is fronted by Matt Philips, and you know he’s a good-natured guy with a cracking sense of humour when he describes his band’s sound as ‘three minute guitar pop tunes with an Essex accent’.

The track’s champions what has become a very British pastime during the season to be jolly – gathering around with loved ones, all snug and warm, immersing yourselves into hours of cheesy, unapologetic ‘Christmas Telly’. And we all love it! The video does not disappoint either; it continues spectacularly with the festive theme. There is a very necessary amount of tinsel and merry drinking throughout, humourous light-hearted-sketches, and clips of the band performing in full swing.
